Family History

John Thomas Mason was born in 1900 the son of John Mason a bricklayer and Jane Agnes Mason née Huddleston of 17 Court Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1875 at Whittlesey, Huntingdon and his mother Jane Agnes Huddlestone was born in 1880 at Nottingham, they were married in 1898 at Nottingham and went on to have 9 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were Lily b1899, John b1900, Hilda b1908 and George b1911 In the 1911 census the family are living at 16 Cambridge Street, Nottingham and are shown as John 36 yrs a bricklayer, he is living with his wife Jane 31 yrs and their children Lily 12 yrs a scholar, John 10 yrs a scholar, Hilda 3 yrs of age and George under 1 year of age.

Military History

Private John Thomas Mason, enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Hyson Green, he served with the 53rd (Young Soldier) Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he died in the military hospital at Clipstone Camp on 31st October 1918of pneumonia. He is buried in Nottingham General Cemetery, where he name is commemorated on the Screen Wall.
