Percy Briggs Wheatcroft was born in 1887 at Nottingham, he was the son of the late William a postal telegraphist and Annie Maria Wheatcroft née Briggs of 160 Burford Road, Nottingham
His father William was born in 1853 at Belper, he died in 1918 aged 65 yrs, his mother Annie Maria Briggs was born in 1854 in Derby, they were married on 27th October 1870 at St Peters Church, Derby, they went on to have 6 children sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.
In 1911 the family lived at 160 Burford Road Nottingham, William 58 yrs is a postal telegraphist, he is living with his wife Annie Maria 57 yrs and their children Agnes Annie 33 yrs a house keeper and Percy Briggs 24 yrs a clerk.
Percy married Hilda Brown (born 12th January 1893) on 28th August 1916 at St Giles Church, West Bridgford, they lived at 22 Wordsworth Road West Bridgford Nottingham.
Commencing 19th November 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Gunner Percy Briggs Wheatcroft enlisted at Nottingham on 10th December 1915, giving his address as 160 Burford Road, Nottingham, giving his age as 28 yrs and 8 months his occupation was that of a clerk he was posted to the reserve and mobilised for war on 22nd August 1916 when he was posted to the Royal Garrison Artillery, 35th Heavy Battery.
He landed in France on 20th March 1917 and was wounded in action on 26th April 1917, he died of his wounds on 14th May 1917, he is buried at Duisans British Cemetery, Etrun, France.
