He was the son of Harry and Alice Maiden who married at Nottingham in 1915. He was the brother of Thomas and Mary Alce Maiden. They lived at 6, Little Duke Street, Sutton in Ashfield in 1921.

He joined up as a pre-war regular and was killed in Belgium a few days after returning from leave.
The Escaut Canal: Around this date, the 1st Battalion was heavily engaged in defensive operations along the Escaut (Scheldt) Canal and the Ypres-Comines Canal to hold back advancing German forces. Their mission was critical: buy enough time for the rest of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) to collapse backward into the Dunkirk perimeter.
Massive Casualties: The 1st Battalion faced relentless artillery shelling, infantry assaults, and aerial bombardment. During this desperate week of withdrawal, the battalion suffered staggering losses, with roughly 300 men killed, wounded, or captured.
