4 April 1944 Lancaster R5726 5 LFS. Take off RAF Syerston on general training, during bad weather exploded mid air and broke up, dived out of low cloud at 15.45 shedding fins, elevators and wingtips before crashing at Branston killing all the crew.

Extra information

A section of the wing-tip was recovered from Knipton reservoir near Grantham, by the Newark sub-aqua club in the late 1970s and is on display at Newark Air Museum.
