He was the son of Thomas Henry and Grace Wilson and the brother of Dennis Wilson. In 1939, they lived on Main Road, Trowell, Nottinghamshire.
Tom Wilson and Marion Elizabeth Harris were married at Eton, Buckinghamshire in 1938. She later lived at Slough.

In June 1940, the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards completed their evacuation from the Dunkirk beaches back to Britain, having fought a fierce rear-guard campaign in France as part of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF).
Upon return, the unit concentrated on reorganizing and re-equipping to defend the home front against a German invasion.
On June 1, 1940, the 1st and 2nd Battalions of the Grenadier Guards finally embarked off the beaches between La Panne and Bray-Dunes during the final stages of Operation Dynamo.
Days prior, they held critical withdrawal lines under intense enemy pressure without yielding ground.
Tom Wilson was either severely wounded and captured by advancing German forces, or left behind in a local Belgian medical facility that was subsequently overrun.
Because Brugge (Bruges) was an occupied hub with established hospitals, he likely succumbed to his wounds in an axis-controlled military hospital or field clinic as a Prisoner of War (POW).
