Lancaster I ED332 took off 1630 16 Jan 1943. All are buried in the Berlin 1939-1945 War Cemetery. No survivors. Fatalities:
Squadron Leader E D Parker (P), Sergeant T Miller (FE), Pilot Officer J A McPhee (RCAF)(N),Warrant Officer C H Reed (W/Op), Sergeant J J Cadd (AB), Flight Sergeant R F Bird (AG), Sergeant C N Judd (AG).
201 aircraft - 190 Lancasters, 11 Halifaxes from the Pathfinders and 1,4 & 5 Groups were dispatched to attack Berlin for the first time in 14 months. The raid was not successful. The target was shrouded in thick cloud and Berlin was beyond the range of Gee and Oboe and H2S radar was not yet ready. 198 people were killed including 53 POWs. The Deutschlandhalle with 10,000 seats was evacuated with s circus in full swing. Audience, performers and animals were guded to the safety of a nearby park.
Lancaster I ED332 was the only British aircraft lost on this raid.
