Military history

3 January 1943 Lancaster W4769 61 Sqn Take off 17.21 RAF Syerston on a mission to Essen. Crashed inbound at Middenmeer Holland. 19.04 was witnessed descending fully ablaze before the bomb load exploded, killing all crew. No claims by fighter or Flak units, cause may have been mechanical or ordnance fault.
