He was the son of Robert and Elsie R. Brierley who left Liverpool for Canada aboard the 'Virginian' on July 19th 1912. The family returned to Liverpool from Quebec oJoseph, Harold, Elsie and William. Their address was 20, Bower Lane, Hollinwood, Oldham, Lancashire. By 1939, William's mother was widowed and living at 1, Council House, Aslockton, Nottinghamshire.
