Military history

Pre war RAF serving in Iraq and Canada.
Served as a radar operator/observer with 406 Sqn, Beaufighter nightfighters. Arrived at 406 Sqn 1/4/1943.
Awarded DFC with F/O Keele (pilot) 25/8/1943. Shot down Do217-K1 U5+DP of 6/KG2 17/5/1943 and a pair of Do217's of KG2 26/7/1943 K1 U5+BA of the Stab KG2 and M1 U5+GK of 2 Gruppe.

4 November 1945 found in a ditch at RAF Syerston with head injuries, after glider training exercise (Dakota + Horsa). Exited the aircraft 00.30 on the runway saying he was heading for the Officers Mess, before Flt/Lt Linder taxied to dispersal. Believed to have fallen or been struck by the tail and walked some distance before collapsing in a ditch. Found 8 hours later at 8.30 and died at RAF Hospital Rauceby 10 November 1945 of a Hemertoma due to a Fractured Skull.
