He was the son of Samuel and Kate Pykett and brother of Frederick, Dora, Edna, John and Bert Pykett of 10, Hawthorne Street, Kings Meadow Road, Meadows, Nottingham. Francis married Muriel Davenport at Nottingham in 1941 and they were to have three children - Francis, David, Gerald and Eileen.
