Joseph K de Roek was the pilot of Mosquito FB.VI HJ767 which crashed whilst on a night training exercise from High Ercall. It had engine trouble and circled the village before trying to land in fields to the west. On crashing the aircraft burnt out. The navigator Finlay William David Hearn also died.
