He was the son of Joseph and Agnes Hamilton and the brother of James, Joseph, Agnes Clayton, Jeanie Johnston Clark and Catherine Mary Hamilton. In 1921 they lived at 22, John Street, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Thomas Hamilton and Hilda Bonser were married in 1934 and they were to have two children - Patrick (1935) and Maureen (1939). In 1939, they lived at 5, Newthorpe Common, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire.

Trooper Thomas Hamilton (Service Number 7942945) served in 'A' Squadron, 4th County of London Yeomanry (Sharpshooters), Royal Armoured Corps. He was killed in action on 23 April 1943 at the age of 35, just months before the battalion's deployment to the Volturno River in Italy.
