Nottingham Southern Cemetery Sec T25 Grave 59A

25 Sqdn at RAF Northolt, Middlesex was converting from Bristol Beaufighters to Mosquitoes which Jack Grundy and John Steed were involved in ferrying down from RAF Church Fenton near Leeds. it seems that Steed from 288 Squadron was an unlucky 'passenger'. A very senior retired RAF officer told me that Grundy would not have been allowed to fly this aircraft to London unaccompanied. David Nunn

Mosquito HJ920 was apparently performing aerobatics. The aircraft stalled while in a steep, climbing turn, and crashed. The aircraft crashed into 52/54 Weardale Road, Basford, Nottingham. One theory is that the pilot from Sneinton, was buzzing around the area of Haydn Road because his girlfriend worked at the JB Lewis (later Meridian then part of Courtaulds) factory.
