29/12/1943. Berlin. 712 aircraft. 100ac damaged, 11 Lancasters, 9 Halifaxes were lost (2.8%) and 217 airmen killed. Many bombs fell to the east of the city. 388 houses were destroyed. 182 civilians were killed, 600 wounded and 10,000 bombed out.

434 ‘Bluenose’ Sqdn. Captain P/O Robert Alexander Pratt was slightly injured in the leg. Albert Bostock was killed instantly taking astro shots. 2nd pilot Canadian John Gordon Stinson (flying his 1st operation) took over and bombed the target, whilst bomb aimer Sgt Samson became flight engineer. Samson and Stimson were later commissioned and awarded DFCs.
