Military history

Lancaster R5627 61 Sqn RAF Syerston Mission to Bremen. Aircraft lost to Bf110 night fighter piloted by Lt Hans Konig 8/NJG3 (KIA 24/5/44) and by Flak of the 8. Flak-Division; crashed southern perimeter of Bad Zwischenahn airfield near Oldenburg.

Returning aircraft reported raid as indifferent but German sources reported damage to U Boat yard, Focke Wulf factory, dock area and pier including damage to warehouses and destroyer Z25. Of 170 aircraft on the raid 11 failed to return.
