Military history

Driver MT section.

Fought with the BEF in France and reported missing, evacuated via Le Harve.

The 1/5th Battalion after a year in England sailed for the Far East and arrived in Singapore on 29 January 1942, just prior to its capture by the Japanese. The Allies sought to consolidate their defences and subsequently during the night of 12/13 February the order was given for a 28-mile (45 km) perimeter to be established around Singapore City at the eastern end of
the island. This was achieved by moving the defending forces from the beaches along the northern shore and from around Changi, with the British 18th Division being tasked to maintain control of the vital reservoirs. Killed in action Bukit Timah Road.
