14/15 July 1941 Wellington W5726 305 Sqn. Take off from RAF Syerston as part of 47 aircraft to bomb Bremen. Thick cloud and icing meant only 16 aircraft bombed the target, 2 Wellingtons lost.
W5726 intercepted and shot down by Uffz Wilhelm Benning in Bf 110D-3 of 1/NJG3 crashing near Zeven, Germany, killing all crew. Also claim by Flak unit.
