Family history

Lived with his widowed mother, Mary Ellen at Old Hall, Upper Langwith and his siblings, Jean born 1930 and Thomas born 1933. Their father, Ernest Leslie, died in 1934 aged 45.
Old Hall Upper Langwith had been Ernest's family home back in 1921 when he lived with his older brother, James and his wife Jane. In 1939 Jane was also widowed and was still living at Old Hall along with Mary Ellen and her children. Mary Ellen was working has caretaker for the local church, Holy Cross at Upper Langwith.

Military history

117 Sqdn was based in India from October 1943 supplying and supporting the Chindits (who served behind Japanese lines in Burma).
Based at Hmawbi, Burma Edwin flew a Dakota IV. His aircraft broke up in severe turbulance 20 miles south of Binhil, Siam carrying 21 soldiers of the 1st Bn of the Queen's Royal Regiment to Siagon for garrison duties.
