Family history

Son of Aaron and Minnie Burgess of 14 Beech Hill Drive, Mansfield.
Younger sister Madeline (Madge) born in 1914.
He was baptised at St Edmunds Church, Mansfield Woodhouse on 4th Februry 1912.
In 1938 he married Winifred Pepperday and they had a son Peter born in 1942, and twins, Lesley and Margaret born a month before their father's death in 1945.
Winifred before her marriage had been a schoolmistress.

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser ; 9/8/1945: Former Teacher Killed, First Missing In Italy.
Information has just come to hand that a former Mansfield school teacher, Leading Aircraftman, Leslie Burgess of the RAF who was reported missing in Italy following short leave lost his life as a result of an accident at the end of May and his body has been found by a peasant in a mountainous district where he had spent the holiday.
It is understood he fell 300 feet and was probably kileed instantaneously. Mr Burgess was 33 and the son of Mr A Burgess of Beech Hill Crescent Mansfield, formerly Priory Square, Mansfield woodhouse. he was educated at the Brunts School and Leeds Inivercity and later served on the staff of several schools in the Mansfield District.
Before joining the RAF four years ago he was a master at Cambridge where his wife, formerly Miss Pepperday of Craven Villa, Mansfield Woodhouse still lives with their 3 children, twin girls born last month.
A memorial service is to be held at Girton, Cambridge next Saturday
