Carl Robert Woolley was the son of Frank Ernest and Minnie Woolley, and the brother of Marion, Frederick Ernest and Philip Lancaster Woolley. In 1921, they lived at 268, Woodborough Road, Nottingham. In 1940, Carl Woolley and Lilian Mary Jackson were married in Wales.

Carl Robert Woolley was the navigator aboard Halifax II W7933 which took off 1654 11 Dec 1942 from Pocklington. It crashed and burst into flames at Lowthwaite Farm Hawnby 9 miles NE of Sowerby Yorkshire. Also lost in the crash were:
