Family history

Son of Joseph and Annie Bugg of 29 Second Avenue, Forest Town.
Siblings: Elsie, Phyllis, John, Albert, Minnie & Horace (twins), Frederick and Winifred.
Joseph was baptised at St Alban's Church on 24th January 1921, his older siblings, Phyllis and John were baptised on the same day.
He married Terence Emilie Alice Warren of Belfast in Hampstead in late 1939.
Terence was working as a counter hand at the N.A.F.F.I at the Regimental Institute N.A.F.F.I. Pirbright, Surrey. The 2nd Bn was based at Pirbright in September 1939 so probably met at the N.A.F.F.I.

Military history

2nd Bn war diary:
1st September 1939; based at Pirbright Camp.
29th September 1939; left Southampton.
30th September 1939; landed at Cherbourg.
31st May 1940; at Furnes attacked again mear he canal. At 7:30 hours orders were given to withdraw to the coast. Reached La Panne (dunes north of Dunkirk) put heavily shelled. Dug in until they coud embark during 1st June.
Embarkation proceeded slowly throughout the day from various points on the beach and from Dunkirk itself. The last of the battallion left Dunkirk at 18:00 hours that night. There were unfortunately many drowned.

William was lost during the evacuation and his exact date of death is not known.
