George had a younger sister, Doris born in 1927.
He left £271 1s & 4d to his father in his will.

Military history

Based at Kumbhirgram, India George flew a Mosquito on an armed sortie to recce Meiktila, Burma. Several sorties were sent out in pairs to recce but George and his fellow crew member, Gordon Hayter Proctor's plane became seperated from the other aircraft and failed to return. Their aircraft was never found.

3/9/1944 Operations Book 45 Squadron:
F/Lt GH Proctor posted to squadron, arrived with his navigator Sgt G Bargh. The football team played an exciting match against a 'hot' Army team, the result after a hard tussle being a no score draw.

The article continues, at 14:36 on the afternoon of 3rd October 1944 F/Lt Proctor departed from Kumbhirgram in Assam in Mosquito HP936 with his navigator F/Sgt George William Bargh of Church Warsop Nottinghamshire. This was the first and only operational mission that their names are found in 45 squadron, the unit only having commenced operations on Oct 1st, and the Proctor/Bargh crew were not involved in the first two days of attacks.
The misson was led by F/O A N Houn and F/O H J S Cargill of teh Royal Australian Air Force in Mosquito HP978.

Official report:
Offensive recce Mektila and Kangdaung A/Fs. (airfields) Irrawaddy crossed at P.P. 2075 and course set for target. Target not seen, cloud 10/10ths. A/F most probably Thabutkon, covered deck level 16:18 hrs. Definately no A/C (aircraft) in Northern Dispersals, nothing believed in Others.
No movement seen, Pens appeared overgrown, steam roller southern end, steamed up. Railway pinpointed- Ywapale LL5237, (station name seen) course set for target area again, but heavy rain encounted and nothing seen except possible 1A7C pen.
As aircraft HP936 had been airborne 30 minutes before the leader, course was set for base. This aircraft was last seen at position PP 8030 16:39 hrs on course 300 degrees, 50 feet and is still missing. No attacks were made, bombs and ammunition brought back.

Flying Officer Harry James Scutchings Cargill was killed on 17/12/1944 and is buried at Imphal War Cemetery, India

George and Gordon are remembered on the Singpore Memorial has they have no known grave.
