So persumably after the sinking of the Prince of Wales at Kota Bharu north of Singapore the survivors were taken to Singapore until they could by redeployed to a new ship.
HMS Sultan was a shore base at Singapore. Established in 1940 it fell when the Japanese attacked in February 1942. Between 10th and 15th of February 5000 escaped from Singapore but only 1 in 4 managed to reach safety, the rest were captured or killed.
