He was a member of the Old Elizabethans Society Cricket club and Dramatic Society. He also played football, hockey and cricket for local clubs.
He was employed as an architect's surveyor in his father's firm Messr Aubrey Lane and Sons.

Family history

The second son of Henry Aubrey and Fanny Lane of 6 Park Avenue, Mansfield. Fanny died in 1924. Aubrey was an architect as was Neville's older brother Philip.
Siblings: Philip Morrish (in January 1903), Marjorie Evelyn (in December 1903) and
Roland Aubrey (1907-1919)
In 1938 Neville married Joy Taylor and they lived at 8 Croft Avenue Mansfield. They had 2 children, Carole in 1938 and Peter in 1941. Joy remarried in 1947 to Frank King.

Military history

He was killed in a V-bomb attack on Antwerp. Antwerp was a major hub for Allied Forces after the invasion of Europe and was subjected to numerous V-bomb attacks. In a period of 175 days 2,342 V2 rockets fell on Antwerp and the surrounding area. Approximately 5,000 dead and 21,000 injured.

Pte Neville Edward Lane, R.A.S.C whose home was in Robin Down Lane, Mansfield and was well known in Mansfield business and sporting circles was killed by enemy action in December in North West Europe.
He was the youngest son of Mr Aubrey Lane of 38 Normanton Drive, Mansfield. In civillian life Pte Lane was an architect and after serving an apprenticeship in Nottingham he was associated with his father in the firm Aubrey Lane & Sons.
Educated at the Queen Elixaebeth Grammar school he was a member of the Old Elizabethan's Society Cricket Club and Dramatic Society. He also played cricket in other local clubs and in addition was a keen football and hockey player. He married in 1938 Miss Joyce Taylor, daughter of Mr & Mrs John Taylor of Larch Farm, and there are two children.
