Attended Queen Elizabeth School from 1927 to 1931.
After school he joined the staff at Mansfield Public Library and in January 1938 he was appointed Deputy Librarian and took an important part in re-organising the library and museum. He passed the his final examination for the Library Association in May 1940 and enlisted the following month.

The Rev H S Carter officiated on thursday last at the Old Meeting House at the wedding of Miss Winifred A Brooks, a member of staff of the mansfield Public Library. The daughter of Mrs and the late Mr GH Brooks of 21 Jenford Ave, Mansfield and Cpl A Eric Fenton, deputy librarian and now serving with the inneskilling Fusiliers the son of Mrs and the late Mr A Fenton of 49 Broxtowe Drive Mansfield

Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser 13th May 1943: Missing Believed Killed.
Many friends will learn with regret that L/Sgt E Fenton is reported missing and believed killed in Tunisia on April 17th. He was 27 years of age and was fighting with the Royal innesklling Fusiliers.

Sgt Arthur Eric Fenton was killed in action on 16th April 1943 during the battle of the Heights of Tanpoucha and buried in Medjez-el-Bab cemetery.

Extra information

It would appear that he was known as Eric as in the In Memorium notices in The Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser he is remembered as Sgt A Eric Fenton
