27/28 May 1941 Wellington R1392 304 Sqn. Take off 22.45 from RAF Syerston to bomb port at Boulogne. 24 aircraft to bomb shipping and the 4/SFltl. Schnellboot and Räumboote bunker construction site.

00.25 hit by Flak in the port engine over the target, just after releasing their bombs. The
aircraft dropped in height and the pilot gave the order to bale out, with the rear gunner leaving the aircraft. The pilot managed to regain control and set course for home on one engine. As they reached the English coast the remaining engine under strain, over heated and caught fire. A second bale out order was given and two crew managed to leave the aircraft at low altitude.

3.02.40 R1392 crashed hitting a large Oak tree and exploded at Darwell Hole near Hastings, Sussex.
