He was well known in local cricket and rugby circles.

Family history

He was the son of Arthur and Jessie Miell of 148, Melton Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham. He was the husband of Rosemary Miell, of Knock, Belfast, Northern Ireland who served with the W.R.N.S.

Military history

Pre-war Miell served with the Notts Yeomanry. After training with OCTU, he was posted to the South Notts Hussars.
