Son of Samuel and Ada (nee Horton) Brace; husband of Marguerite Ruth Brace, of Aspley, Nottinghamshire. Birth registered 1911 J/A/S qtr in Basford Registration District.

In 1921 John was living on Brookfield Rd, Arnold with his parents, 2 brothers (Thomas & Samuel) and 2 older unmarried sisters (Lily & Ethel) and a married sister Hilda plus her husband Arthur Kirk. John is at school full time. His Father Samuel works at Gedling Colliery a does son Thomas and son in law Arthur.
In 1939 Samuel and his wife Ada along with their children Lily and Samuel are living at 54 Brookfield Rd, Arnold. Samuel is no longer a miner but is still doing heavy manual work as a labourer.
His death was reported in the Nottingham Evening Post Wednesday February 16, 1944.
"BRACE Pte John, 35, Bankwood Close, Aspley, aged 32 years [sic] killed in action January. Beloved husband of Marguerite and daddy of Ruth and baby John"
