Family history

Geoffrey Harry Machin was born in 1895 at Teversall, he was the son of Thomas a colliery deputy and Mary Machin née Marsden of Silver Hill, Teversall.

His father Thomas was born in 1859 at Wincobank, Yorkshire, his mother Mary Marsden was born in 1860 at Oakerthorpe, Derbyshire, they were married in 1879 their marriage was recorded in the Belper Registration district, they went on to have 7 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Teversall Village, Thomas 52 yrs is a colliery deputy, he is living with his wife Mary 51 yrs and their children, Thomas William 25 yrs a colliery deputy, Neville 19 yrs a boiler smith, Geffrey Harry 16 yrs an electric motor attendant and George Royce 8 yrs of age and a scholar.

Military history

Private Geoffrey Harry Machin enlisted and served with the 24th Field Ambulance Royal Army Medical Corps, he served in France and Mesopotamia and died in Netley Hospital, England on 3rd January 1919 of acute mania. He is buried at Teversal (St Katherine) churchyard.
