Attended Brunts School from September 1932 to July 1938 and was swim captain for his school house in 1937-38. He joined Mansfield Library and Museum as a junior assistant librarian. He enlisted into the RAF in February 1940.
His two brothers also attended Brunts School.

Son of Francis J. Binge and Jessie Binge, of 136 Southwell Road, Rainworth.
Brothers: Richard Ralph (1915) and Francis Jesse (1916).
Francis snr ran a poultry farm.
Joseph left his mother £200 14s 2d in his will.

Flew from Lossimouth on a night training exercise but suffered engine failure and crashed into Spey Bay, with the loss of the full crew.

Many friends and particularly old scholars of the Brunts School will learn with regret of the death of in action of Sgt-Pilot J.C. Binge whoe home address is St Winifred's Southwell Road East, Mansfield. He was 21 years of age.
Sgt-Pilot Binge was a former pupil of Brunts School and was popular among chums as an expert swimmer. He was swimming captain of his house in 1937-38. He was a pupil at the school from September 1932 to July 1937 and two brothers were also pupils at the school. For more than 2 years he was a member of staff at Mansfield Library and Museum and was a valued and efficient servent of the Corporation. He volunteered for service in the RAF and was successful in gaining his wings six months after joining in February 1940.
He made a number of flights over Germany and served with the RAF in the Middle East and latterly was engaged in training air pilots in the North.
He was of a genial dispostion and made friends where ever he went.
One of his brothers is serving in the Army and another in the Navy and both are well known locally.

Flt-Pilot J.C. Binge, son of Mr & Mrs F Binge 136 Southwell Road, Rainworth whose tragic death occured while on active service was interred at Blidworth on Dec2nd.
The prescence of man friends testified to the great esteem in which the young airman was held.
