He was the son of Joseph Thomas and Florence Eliza Hodgkinson of 118, Mill Road Eastwood in 1939 and later Newthorpe, Nottinghamshire.

Military history

During July 1942, the unit was in a static home defense posture. Unlike other artillery units that were being shipped out to North Africa or the Far East at this time, the 111th HAA Regiment remained deployed on home soil until March 1944. They trained continuously until eventually transferring to the 2nd Army to take part in the 1944 liberation campaigns in Northwest Europe.

Hodgkinson died training in Northern Ireland.
