He was the son of Joseph Henry and Minnie May Saxton and the brother of Joseph, Edna, Irene, Jack, Ronald and Pauline Saxton of 65, Swingate, Kimberley, Nottinghamshire. In 1921, Joseph and his parents had lived with Minnie's father George Lambley at 70, High Street, Kimberley.
