Son of Thomas Gervase Booth and Janet Russell Booth, of The Black Swan, Portland Street, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
His father was the licencee and his mother was a school teacher.
He was baptised at St Mark's Church on the 30th June 1920 and the family were living at
11 Lord Street, Mansfield.
Had one brother, Leonard born in 1923.
Thomas was lost on th SS Lancastria when she was sunk whilst evacuating servicemen from St Nazaire when France fell to the Germans. A Cunard ocean liner she was commandeered as a troop ship.
It is not known how many died during the sinking has between 4000 and 9000 personnel where crammed on board a ship which was suppose to have capacity of just over 2000. The captain said he could take 3000 at a pinch but was ordered to take as many as he could "without regard to limits of international law". It is estimated that between 2000 and 6000 died.
She had been hit by 3 or 4 bombs and sank in 20 mins.
