Family history

He was the son of John Robert Richardson and of Nellie Richardson, of Kensington, London. Prior to the war, Bruce lived at Nottingham on Edwards Lane.

Military history

Bruce Arthur Richardson was killed in action on May 27, 1940, at the age of 21, while serving with the 9th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters. He lost his life during the battalion's intense defensive stand and subsequent fighting retreat near Oignies and the Haute Deule Canal, which was vital to keeping the Dunkirk evacuation corridor open.
