On May 21st, 1940, the 8th Battalion of the Worcestershire Regiment suffered heavy casualties from a German artillery barrage at Wez Velvain while held in reserve, before moving at dusk to relieve the 5th Gloucestershire Regiment at Bruyelle.Actions on May 21st, 1940Morning shelling: “A German barrage started to fall on Wez Velvain, resulting in many casualties in the Battalion.”, as recorded in the Worcestershire Regiment History.Casualties: Several soldiers, including Jack Jones, were killed or wounded during this intense bombardment.
