Coal Miner and a member of the colliery' s Cadet Corps. He enlisted in 1932, serving for 4 years, 2 in Egypt and 2 at home. He left the service in 1936 and went to work in the Highways Dept for Mansfield District Council.

Family history

Son of William and Laura Buckley, of 3 Maltby Road, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire.
His father was an unemployed watchman and was working as an air-raid warden.

Military history

After leaving the Army on 27th March 1936 he was reservist and was recalled to colours on 15th August 1939.
The Grenadier Guards were engaged in the rear guard action following the Battle of France and covering the evacuation at Dunkirk.

L/Cpl William Noah Buckley, eldest son of Mr & Mrs William Buckley of 3 Maltby Road, Mansfield, known as Bill he was 28 and unmarried. Worked at Mansfield Colliery and was a member of the Cadet Corps connected to the colliery.He enlisted in the Army, his fine manley bearing gained him a place in the renowned Grenadier Guards. Served as a regular for 4 years, 2 in Egypt and 2 at home. He finished in the colours on 27th march 1936.
He then worked for MDC Highways Dept. Being a reservist he was recalled on August 15th 1939. Another son is awaiting his call -up papers.
