Military history

The 2nd Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment was a Regular Army unit serving within the 3rd Infantry Division of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF). Following the German invasion on 10 May, the division was deployed into Belgium to establish defensive positions along the River Dyle. By mid-May, the Allied front line in Belgium was severely fractured by rapid German breakthroughs. Dove was killed on 15 May 1940 as his battalion engaged in fierce defensive actions to hold back the German columns.
