Charles Albert Sear fought in the air defence forces as part of the 1st Battery, 4th Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. As an anti-aircraft gunner, Charles Sear’s unit was responsible for tracking and shooting down enemy aircraft.
When Germany launched its surprise offensive on 10 May, the Luftwaffe immediately sent swarms of bombers and Stuka dive-bombers to strike Allied airfields, transport hubs, and troop movements across France and Belgium.
Gunner Sear was killed as his battery attempted to defend against the onslaught.
CWGC cites May 10th to June 30th as his date of death.
