Family History
Dennis was the son of Ada Hatfield and living with his widowed grandmother, Mary, who was head of the family. In 1911 he lived with his uncle Robert Pinder who was the post master of Misson. He lived as a boarder in Doncaster in his teens after his mother died in 1899.
Military History
He enlisted at Pontefract on 29th March 1916 and after training at Ferriby near Hull and other various places he went to France and took part in heavy fighting with 2nd Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. On about the 9th December he was shot in the breast during an action and died in hospital at Rouen on 19th December 1916 from his wounds.

He is buried at Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.
