Harold Kaye was born in 1898 at Chilwell, Nottingham, he was the son of Arthur a brass borer at a waggon works and Ann Maria Kaye née Sallis and the brother of John Arthur, Herbert Horace, Thomas Alfred, Henry Cyril, Reginald, Ernest, and Albert Edward Kaye of Long Eaton.

His father Arthur Downing Kaye was born in 1869 at Heckmonwike, Yorkshire, his mother Ann Maria Sallis was born in 1865 at Sandiacre, they were married on 23rd December 1893 at St Helens, Stapleford, they went on to have 8 childen,

In 1901, the family lived at 55, Main Road, Chilwell, Nottinghamshire,

In the 1911 census the family are living at 210 Station Road, Long Eaton, Arthur Downing 41 yrs is a brass borer at a waggon works, he is living with his wife Ann Maria 45 yrs and their children, John Arthur 14 yrs a fitter at a telephone works, Herbert Horace 15 yrs a cable stripper at a telephone works, Harold 13 yrs a scholar, Thomas Alfred 10 yrs a scholar, Henry Cyril 8 yrs a scholar, Reginald 6 ys a scholar, Ernest 4 yrs and Albert Edward 3 years of age.

Military history

Private Harold Kaye enlisted at Derby he served with the 24th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he was killed in action on 22nd October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial Panel 19 to 23
