Albert Ernest Holland known as 'Bert' He was the son of James a lace maker and Jane (née Webster) Holland and the brother of James, William, Joseph Robert, Margaret Emma and Henry Leonard Holland of Radford, Nottingham
His father James was born in 1862 at Radford, his mother Jane Webster was born in 1859 at Nottingham, they were maried on 9th April 1882 at St Nicholas Church, Nottingham, they had 7 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 31, Guthrie Street, Old Radford, Nottingham.James Holland 49 yrs is a lace maker, he is living with his eife Jane 51 yrs and their children, James 27 yrs acycle maker, William 25 yrs a gas stoker, Joseph Robert 20 yrs a lace curtain designer, Margaret Emma 17 yrs a box maker, Henry Leonard 1 4yrs a scholar and Albert Ernest 12 yrs a scholar.
Private Albert Ernest Holland enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion Norfolk Regiment, he died of wounds on 4th September 1918 he is buried at Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, Grave Reference: II G 8
Nottingham Evening Post, Roll of Honour 13/9/1918:
'Holland - Died of wounds September 4th, Pte. Bert Holland aged 19 and a half years, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Holland of 31 Guthrie Street. Gone to eternal rest. - Sorrowing father, mother, brothers Will and Joe (France).'
'Holland - Died of wounds September 4th, Pte. Bert Holland, dearly loved brother to Mrs Skinner. Too dearly loved to be forgotten. - Sorrowing sister Mabel and niece (Harry Egypt).'
Nottingham Evening Post, In Memoriam 4/9/1919:
'Holland - In loving memory of Pte. Bert Holland, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Holland, died of wounds in France September 4th 1918. Not dead to those who loved him, not lost, but gone before; he lives with us in memory and will for evermore. - Father, mother and brothers.'
'Holland In loving memory of Pte. Bert Holland, died of wounds September 4th 1918. No morning dawns or night returns, dear brother but what we think of thee. - Brother Len and Elsie.'
