Private William Edward Davis enlisted at Nottingham on 12th June 1915 , giving his address as 96 Middleton Street, Nottingham, his age was 36 yrs he was a coal miner hewer, he served with the 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment,he embarked on 6th March 1916 and was attached 181st Tunnelling Coy, Royal Engineers on 19th March 1916 . He was killed in action on 16th April 1916 he is buried at Maroeuil British Cemetery
