Leonard Morley was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the son of William a railway platelayer and Clara Morley née Fitzwater and the brother of Hannah, William and Clara Morley.
His father was born in 1869 at Nottingham, his mother Clara Fitzwater was born in 1872 at Nottingham, they were married in 1891 at Nottingham they went on to have 4 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 26, Beaumont Street, Sneinton, Nottingham William Morley 42 yrs is a railway platelayer, he is living with his wife Clara 39 yrs and their children Hannah 18 yrs a lace finisher, William 17 yrs working in a bottling department, Leonard 15 yrs a cardboard box maker, and Clara 10 yrs a scholar.
Private Leonard Morley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry he died of wounds on 5th July 1916 he is buried at Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension Grave Reference: I C 9
Nottingham Evening Post 5/7/1917:
'MORLEY. – In memory of Pte. L. Morley, died of wounds July 5th, 1916. Silently mourned. – From mother, dad, sisters, and brother Bill, A.I.F.'
William Morley, 'B' Company, 24th Battalion Australian Imperial Force, was wounded on three occasions: 5th August 1916, 14th November 1916, and 8th August 1918.
