Clarence Leslie Stocks was born in 1892 at Radford, he was the son of John Harry a lace designer and Mary Eliza Stocks néé Tatham and the brother of Benjamin Thomas, Florence May, Ethel Eliza, Gladys, Harry and Mabel Winifred Stocks at 13 Graham Street Radford Boulevard All Souls Parish Nottingham
His father John Harry was born in 1861 at Basfod, his mother Mary Eliza Tatham was born in 1860 at Basford, they were married in 1884 at Nottingham, they went o to have 7 children.
In 1901 they lived at 11 Stansfield Terrace Stansfield Street Nottingham.
In the 1911 census the family lived a 11 Stansfield Terrace, Radfod, John Harry 50 yrs is a lace designer he is living with his wife Mary Eliza 51 yrs and their children, Florence Mary 23 yrs a machinist, Etel Eliza 21 yrs a pattern girl, Clarence Leslie 19 yrs a grocers assistant, Gladys 15 yrs a machinist, Harry 14 yrs a grocers errand boy and Mable Winifred 10 yrs a scholar.
Lance Corporal Clarence Leslie Stocks, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 2nd Garrison Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, he died in Mesopotamia on 16th July 1917 of heat stroke and is buried in Basra War Cemetery.
In memoriam published 16th July 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :-
“STOCKS. – In loving memory of Lance-Cpl. Clarence Stocks, who died in Mesopotamia July 16th, 1917. Ever in our thoughts. – Sorrowing mother, sisters, and brothers (serving).”
