Family history

William Henry Chatterton (junior) was born in 1895 at Nottingham, he was the son of William Henry Chatterton (senior) and Hannah Chatterton née Lane and the brother of Elsie (later Smith) Chatterton.

His father William Henry (senior) was born in 1864 at Nottingham, his mother Hannah Margaret Lane was born in 1863 at Arnold, they were married in 1889 at Nottingham, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 was to die in infancy or early childhood.

In the 1911 census the family lived at 100 Montpelier Road Lenton Nottingham William Henry 47 yrs is a gas stoker he is living with his wife Hannah 48 yrs and their children, William Henry 15 yrs a cotton errand boy and his married daughter Elsie Smith (nee Chatterton) 18 yrs a hoseiry sorter and her husband Alfred Smith 19 yrs Cigar maker and his grandson Alfred Samuel Smith 1 year old.

Military history

Gunner William Henry Chatterton enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 32nd Bty 33rd Brigade, Royal Field Artillery he was killed in action on 20th July 1917, he is buried at Railway Dugouts Burial Ground (Transport Farm)
