William Flewkes was born in 1889 at Nottingham, he was the son of William and Sarah Flewkes.

In the 1911 census William and his mother lived at 4 Cobden Street Radford Nottingham.

William married Sarah Ann Savage (born 25th February 1888)) they were married in 1913 at Nottingham, they lived at 165 Monday Street, Radford, they had 2 children, William born 17th December 1913 and Annie born 30th September 1916. They later lived at 46 Citadel Street Radford.

Commencing 28th October 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 29 shillings and 3 pence a day.

Military history

Gunner William Flewkes enlisted at Nottingham, he served with 'D' Bty 150th Bde, Royal Feld Artillery, he was killed in action on 5th April 1918 he is buried at Contay British Cemetery, Contay
