John Gilbert Cordon was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was baptised on 23rd March 1904 at Christ Church Radford, he was the son of Thomas Gilbert a cycle worker and Josephine Cordon née Dexter Castle and the brother of Nellie and William Lionel Cordon of 6 Citadel Street, Old Radford, Nottingham
His father Thomas Gilbert Cordon was born in 1872 at Nottingham his mother Josephine Dexter Castle was born in 1875 at Moulton, India, they were married in 1896 at Nottingham
they had 3 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 9 Havelock Terrace Ronald Street New Radford Nottingham Thomas Gilbert 37 yrs is a cyle worker he is living with his wife Josephine 36 yrs and their children, Nellie 17 yrs a box maker for a tobacco manufacturer, John Gilbert 12 yrs a scholar and William Lionel 9 yrs a scholar.
Private John Gilbert Cordon was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 10th battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 28th June 1918 in France, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial
