Family history

John Bennett known as 'Jack' was born in 1895 the son of Thomas a coal miner hewer and Emma Bennett née Dring of 99 Salisbury Street Old Radford Nottingham.

Thomas was born in 1861 at Derby, Emma Dring was born in 1862 at Gotham, married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 11 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood.

In 1911 the family were living at 55 St Pauls Street, Radford, Thomas 50 yrs is a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Emma 49 yrs and 6 of their children, Jack is 16 yrs and a coal miner.

Military history

Rifleman John Bennett enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion King'Royal Rifle Corps, he died of wounds on 15th September 1916 and is buried at La Neuville British Cemetery, Corbie
