George William Marshall

George William Marshall was born in 1895 at Cotgrave, he was the son of John William Marshall and Mary Elizabeth Simpson .

His father John William was born in 1873 at Cotgrave, his mother Mary Elizabeth Simpson was born in 1876 at Owthorpe, who married in the Bingham registration district on 4th February 1893 at All Saints Church, Cotgrave, they had 8 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood. Their children included: George William (b.1895), Winifred Mary (b.1896), Annie May (b.1899), Ivy Elizabeth (b.1900/d.1902), Mabel (b.1902) and Horace (b.1904).

The family lived at: Holme Pierrepont [C.1901]; 79 Kennington Road, Old Radford [C.1911]; 13 Canterbury Road, Old Radford [n.e.p.24.12.1917 & CWGC]. George William was probably working his father who was employed as a van man for a steam laundry [C.1911].

In the 1911 census the family are living at 79 Kennington Road, Radford, John William 38 yrs is a van man he is living with his wife Mary E 35 yrs and their children, George W 16 yrs a van lad, Winifred M 14 yrs a scholar, Annie M 12 yrs a scholar, Mabel 8 yrs and Horace 6 yrs of age.

John William Marshall died at Nottingham, aged 83, in 1956. His wife, Mary Elizabeth, predeceased him, probably dying at Nottingham in 1947, aged 72.
