Family history

Lewis Knight was born in 1893 at Maplebeck, Newark, Nottinghamshire, he was the son of Richard William a farmer and the late Ada Eliza Knight née Nation of Buckminster, Grantham.

His father Richard William was born in 1860 at North Muskham, his mother Ada Eliza Nation was born in 1867 at Kensington, London, she died in 1898 at Essex aged 31 yrs they were married in 1890 at West Ham, Essex , they had 3 children , their other children were Sydney born 1895 and Agnes born 1898.

In the 1911 census the family are living at Buckminster Grantham, Richard William 47 yrs a widow is a farmer he is living with his son Sydney 16 years.

Lewis at some time emigrated to Australia where he met and married Annie Dark they were married on 20th June 1914 at St Leonards church, New South Wales.

Military history

Lance Corporal Lewis Knight enlisted at Kiama New South Wales, whilst residing at Berry , New South Wales, he served wih the 45th battalian Australian Army, his unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A68 Anchises on 24th January 1917.

He was killed in action on 12th October 1917, he is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium Grave Reference: XX J 20A
